PRIMARY FRENCH FRENCH FOR CHILDREN NUMBERS 0-21 LES NOMBRES EN FRANÇAIS 0-21 VISUAL VOCABULARY LIST FREEBIE The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. The resource is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. I like to give visual vocabulary lists to my young beginner learners of French, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image. Children glue them into their French vocabulary books, or file them in their French vocabulary folders with other vocabulary lists, which gives them an accessible and useful French vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning. There are two versions to choose from - colour, which I use for French vocabulary display, or BW, which saves prep expense, and is also a popular activity with younger students, who like to color as they read aloud and practice their French numbers. Try this super simple French Numbers 0-21 visual vocabulary worksheet freebie, which is great for practicing recall, writing and spelling in French: FRENCH NUMBERS 0-21 VISUAL VOCABULARY WORKSHEET FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-numbers-0-21-visual-vocabulary-worksheet-freebie-12953196 Have a browse in my store for more French visual vocabulary lists, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning materials, with French resource boxes, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. Perfect for developing English language skills in general, as well as for practicing and revising numbers 0-21 in English. There are 36 differentiated questions, answer key, recording sheet and number reference sheet. There’s also a question card template for students to apply language creatively and practically, which is an essential aspect of successful language learning, and is also a really popular activity with my students. Task cards are really versatile too - we use them not only when we’re focusing on the target vocabulary, but throughout the year for sub lessons, as entrance and exit tickets, refreshers and free-choice learning. The questions range in complexity and challenge, ensuring a scaffolded learning experience for students. All the questions are in English, including a range of English math language. Students may not necessarily engage with that at this stage of their learning, so I use math symbols as visual clues and prompts, enabling students to infer meaning from context. This is a key language learning skill in general, which is important for students to develop as quickly as possible. The resource comprises the following non-editable files in a zipped format: 36 differentiated question cards 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Print, laminate and cut out. GERMAN TELLING THE TIME CHALLENGE CARDS

5 Resources
PRIMARY GERMAN TELLING TIME KS2 GERMAN TELLING TIME KS3 GERMAN TELLING THE TIME CHALLENGE CARDS THREE SETS OF 60 CHALLENGE CARDS @ £2.00 EACH IN THE BUNDLE Files are non-editable in zipped formats. The bundle is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom, in whole or in part, in any way. The license for purchase is a single-use license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. These German telling the time challenge cards are perfect for developing German language skills in general, as well as for practising and revising how to tell the time in German. Each set has 60 cards, divided into two sets of 30 questions, and includes a full answer key and a recording sheet. The cards have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling, and really help students develop more independence in their learning, moving away from more teacher-led tasks and activities. Challenge cards are really versatile too - we use them not only when we’re focusing on the target vocabulary and structures, but throughout the year as starters and refreshers. The goal is not simply to learn and practice how to tell the time in German, but also to enjoy working independently with language, and to feel confident about doing so. Students tend to find half past the hour and quarter to / past the hour in German quite challenging, and the focused practice is really useful. The questions across the three sets are a straightforward introduction to, and practice of, a range of German analogue clock times for students, and also to working and learning with task cards. I generally work with telling the time in German quite quickly with my beginner German students, as it lends itself really well to promoting speaking in the classroom, discussing daily routines for example. There are two questions: Wie spät ist es / Wie viel Uhr ist es? with a particular clock face, and students write the response on their recording sheet or in their workbooks. The second question is Richtig oder falsch? and students write either richtig or falsch - where the answer is falsch, remind students to write the correct time for additional consolidation. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and time creatively and practically, which is integral to successful language learning. It’s also a really popular activity too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other. I prepare each set on different color paper, so that when students are using multiple sets, we can sort them into the relevant set really easily. The cards are numbered 1-60 in words, so students should recap those numbers before they work with the task cards. There are two German numbers 0-100 number reference lists in my store which you can download for free - my students find them really useful. Each set comprises the following non-editable files: 60 cards, 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminating is definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as the cards are far more learner-friendly, and stay in excellent condition for a long time, so you’ll be able to recycle them for years. 2-page answer recording sheet. Best printed double-sided to save paper. My students generally use their class workbooks to note their answers, though I do use recording sheets for more formal assessment purposes. 2-page answer key, again best printed double-sided, and laminated if possible. For me, answer keys are an integral element to this kind of learning activity. They offer students an additional opportunity to engage with language, and to develop more independence in their learning. They’re also a great teacher time-saver, which is always a good thing! I distribute one answer key per small group when we’re working with the task cards in class time. Have a browse in my store for more German resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. GCSE FRENCH VERBS KS4 FRENCH VERBS KS5 FRENCH VERBS INTERMEDIATE FRENCH VERBS CARDS TWO SETS @ £3.75 EACH IN THE BUNDLE Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 198 high-frequency French verbs with 198 matching English verbs cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for advanced beginner French learners, as they prepare to move into and work confidently at intermediate French level. Each set features 99 high-frequency French verbs, and a Reference, Recall & Write Workbook with 3 differentiated written recall challenges. The games and activities are a really successful alternative to more traditional ‘vocabulary drilling’ exercises. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their core French verbs vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The game cards and accompanying Recall & Write activities have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the verbs don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. This prepares them really well for creative activities in French - they will have a rich vocabulary to choose from. The verb card templates allow students to apply their French knowledge practically and creatively, as they put together mini-quiz cards for each other, preferably from memory, and this is integral to successful language learning. The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical French-English reference list of all 99 verbs in the particular set. Students find this really useful as a learning support resource, and it comes in very handy for quick vocabulary quizzes too. The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarise themselves with, and really embed, the range of verbs in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in French. It’s also a great way of developing literacy skills in French. The challenges can be done several times, as students simply cover previous responses, so they definitely get a lot of use from a single workbook. There are three differentiated recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One students write the English verbs from a French prompt, with all the verbs in alphabetical order, French-English. Written Recall Challenge Two again, students write the verbs in English from a French prompt, but the French verbs are now in random, rather than alphabetical order. Language learners often learn or are familiar with new vocabulary in a particular order, so it increases the recall challenge by changing that order. Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge requires students to write the corresponding French verb from an English prompt. The English verbs are also in random order. This challenge really helps with vocabulary recall, which is quite challenging when vocabulary does not appear in the context of a sentence. It’s really useful for spelling in French too. Laminate the game cards if you can - they are far more learner-friendly, and the additional prep and expense is definitely worth it, as the cards will last in excellent conditional for years. KS3 GERMAN SPEAKING KS4 GERMAN SPEAKING GCSE GERMAN SPEAKING CONVERSATION STARTERS FREEBIE 10 cards in question format Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. The product is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, regardless of level, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce accurately language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning. The questions feature a range of tenses, such as the present tense, imperfect tense, conditional tense, and wenn + subjunctive + conditional clauses. There is also a significant amount of implicit input on a range of grammatical concepts, such as direct and indirect object pronouns, use of the subjunctive and so on. I include tenses we may not have formally covered, as the activity is not solely about practising language, but also about actively learning it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning. Questions formats are varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in German. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. I remind students that it is not necessary to tell the truth - the purpose is to create and produce accurate and realistic language. Students can prepare their responses in as much detail as possible on the accompanying planning sheet, remembering that these are conversation starters, so that once they have responded, they should then say something to continue the conversation going. Frequent and regular engagement with the activity brings the best results: with the planning sheet, students can create and prepare increasingly detailed and more complex responses, reflecting their learning progress. I definitely find it useful to read through the questions together as a whole-group, with students offering initial suggested responses. This ensures everyone can actually access the language, and they also benefit a lot from each others’ ideas. They work well as refresh and revision for KS4 French / GCSE French students too. This kind of activity really does help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their conjugation skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in French in general, and certainly in conjugating French ER verbs in the present tense in particular. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and some call upon prior and new knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some vocabulary that students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. Other grammatical concepts are addressed in the questions too, such as gender agreement, direct and indirect objects, personal pronouns and question formats in French. The set comprises the following non-editable files: 12 differentiated question cards 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. The card size allows for more complex sentences, and equally importantly for a font size that is sufficiently large to ensure that language is accessible to students, who are generally at the more initial stages of their French programmes. answer key answer keys are integral to this kind of learning activity: they provide students with additional opportunity to engage with language and help them develop more independence in their learning. To keep prep to a minimum, the answers are given across two pages of A4, which I print double-sided. Here, the text is a little dense, so some students may need additional support if they find the text too small to access successfully. Ideal for intermediate French towards advanced French students who are beginning to work with more complex language and texts in French, and developing their knowledge of tense and mood in French. The workbooks focus on formation and conjugation, rather than usage, though it’s definitely useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb formation and conjugation. Language learners do often try to conflate what they know about grammar in their first / home language with that of the language they are learning. For example, students with English as a first language frequently use avoir instead of être in this tense, and working regularly with both the perfect and pluperfect tenses in French really helps them to learn which verbs require which particular auxiliary verb. Reflexives tend to require additional practice - firstly, the correct reflexive pronoun, and secondly, its location within a clause or sentence in relation to the pronoun and verbs. The verbs groups are: = regular French -ER verbs = French -RE verbs = French -IR & -OIR verbs = high-frequency French verbs = French reflexive verbs Each set is structured as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in French. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding French verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. Notes and Next Steps template which students visit regularly - it really does encourage them to think about where they are now, how confident they feel, and what they might need to work on a little more to be absolutely sure of their conjugation skills. We also note down any new verbs we meet, which enables students to build up their own verb vocabulary bank. It’s a great tool to guide and inform whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really successful and popular activity. answer key: 6-page booklet which is absolutely essential in my view. Answer keys help students develop more independence in their learning, and provide them with an additional opportunity to engage with language and grammar. They also genuinely enjoy correcting their own - and particularly each others’ - work. The tenses are: = simple future tense (le futur simple) = near future tense (le futur proche) = conditional tense (le conditionnel) The verb groups are: = regular French -ER verbs = French -RE verbs = French -IR & -OIR verbs = high-frequency French verbs = French reflexive verbs My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. It’s definitely useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb formation and conjugation. For example, language learners do often try to conflate what they know about grammar in their first language, and the language they are learning, and with students whose first language is English, I frequently see students looking for a word that is the equivalent of would, until they familiarise themselves with the fact that the notion of conditional is implicit in the verb itself, indicated in the verb ending. It’s also easy to confuse the simple future tense endings with the conditional tense endings, and for that reason, I do tend to introduce these tenses fairly closely together. This means we can compare and contrast the tenses, both in terms of formation and usage, and targeted practice helps to address any confusion really well. Though the workbooks focus solely on the correct conjugation of verbs, and does not look at word order in the context of full sentences, there are conjugation patterns that students can learn, recognise and apply, ensuring that their spoken and written French is accurate, and that their understanding of French across the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing is robust. Students become very familiar and confident the more they work with conjugation, and these quick conjugations certainly help to embed that successfully. Each set is structured as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Twenty fruits in Italian, with both words and pictures - I like to give visual vocabulary lists to my young beginner learners of Italian, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image. Children glue them into their Italian vocabulary books, or file them in their Italian vocabulary folders with other vocabulary lists, which gives them an accessible and useful Italian vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning. We also discuss which fruits we know and like, and those we would like to try. Children like to create their own word and picture dictionary lists, adding to it as they learn more. I don’t necessarily have all the fruits in my teaching and learning plan, but it’s always a good idea to give children opportunity to engage with a broader range of words and sounds, which they begin to absorb quite naturally. The fruits focus on the definite article, either singular or plural, which is a great for promoting discussion about grammatical concepts in Italian, specifically gender of Italian nouns. The fruits are: the red apple the bananas the cherries the fig the green grapes the lemon the mangos the nectarine the olives the oranges the papaya the peach the pears the pineapple the pumpkin the raspberry the rhubarb the starfruit the strawberries the watermelon There are two backgrounds to choose from - Italian flag, which I use for Italian vocabulary display, or plain. Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practising and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on Numbers 0-31 in French, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - enabling learners to engage with the target vocabulary, but also aligning with cross-curricular learning - working on reading, writing, spelling, numeracy and French language skills in general. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. As they move through the grids, their language skills are challenged in a range of ways - from straightforward vocabulary searching, to gap-fill, scrambled letters and more complex questions, which feature mathematical language in French. Hyphens are important in French numbers, and the grids feature these quite clearly, in order to ensure that learners can practice this aspect of language. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. For me, answer keys are essential, as they not only provide learners with another opportunity to engage with language, but they also help them develop more independence in their learning. They’re also a great teacher time-saver - a real bonus! There is a single word search per page, portrait format. I like to ensure that text is accessible to all learners - and at this stage of their learning, it’s absolutely essential that language looks accessible and manageable. There are two formats to choose from - the search grids and answer keys as separate worksheets, and also a file with both grids and answer keys together, so that you can print each grid and key double-sided, according to which suits your classroom needs better. FRENCH NUMBERS 0-21 LIST FREEBIE

PRIMARY FRENCH IMMERSION FRENCH FOR CHILDREN FRENCH NUMBERS 0-21 LIST FREEBIE I encourage my beginner French students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organising their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning files or folders. My students all have reference resource folders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files (we also use twine or thick string). I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag, which I generally use for French vocabulary display, and plain. The background does help to make vocabulary lists a little more visually appealing for students, particularly for classroom decor, which is a real motivator for learning.
